Adobe’s primary AI video generation tool is now accessible to all users through its newly launched Firefly web application. The designing software firm announced on Wednesday, February 12, that it has released its FireFly video model in public beta.

Positioned as the industry’s first “commercially safe” AI video generator, Adobe said Firefly video model can be accessed via the Generate Video (beta) option on the Firefly web app and Generative Extend (beta) in Adobe Premiere Pro.

This is Adobe’s latest offering as part of its Firefly suite of AI services such as Firefly Image 2 for generating images and Firefly Vector Model for generating vector graphics based on text prompts.

The company said that over 18 billion assets have been created using Firefly AI models by users across the globe.

‘Commercially safe, production-ready AI tool’

“The Firefly Video Model generates IP-friendly video content that can be used in production today,” Adobe said in a press release.

“It empowers creative professionals with tools to generate video clips from a text prompt or image, use camera angles to control shots, create professional quality images from 3D sketches, craft atmospheric elements and develop custom motion design elements,” it added.

The Firefly video model is capable of generating videos with a 1080p resolution. Adobe said it is also working on a lower resolution ideation model for high-speed iteration and a 4K AI model for pro-level production work.

“Firefly is only trained on content that Adobe has permission to use, which includes licensed content from Adobe Stock and public domain content – never on Adobe customer content,” Adobe said.

Last year, users had raised concerns that Adobe could potentially use their creative works and other data to train its AI models.

The backlash came after the company updated its terms of service to reflect that it may access, view, or listen to user content “through both automated and manual methods,” in addition to holding licences “to use, reproduce, publicly display, distribute, modify, create derivative works based on, publicly perform, and translate the Content.”

Videos generated using the Firefly Video Model will carry Content Credentials, as per Adobe.

The company has been at the forefront of the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) initiative which aims to establish an industry-wide standard for watermarking AI-generated content in a bid to tackle misinformation. OpenAI, Google, and Microsoft are also part of the C2PA initiative.

In addition, Adobe lets users verify if the content is AI-generated by using the Inspect tool in its Content Authenticity web app.

Firefly Standard and Pro plans

From Wednesday onwards, Adobe is also offering two new plans with tiered pricing, where subscribers will get access to “new audio and video capabilities as well as image and vector generations” on the Firefly web app.

The Firefly Standard plan offers users over 2,000 video/audio credits per month and up to 20 5-second 1080p video generations. It is priced at Rs 797.68, inclusive of 18% GST.

The Firefly web app has been integrated into Adobe Creative Cloud applications including Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Express, and others.
