Are we heading towards a future without programmers? The founder of Stability AI, the maker of Stable Diffusion, Emad Mostaque thinks so. In his recent interview, the CEO of Stability AI made a thought-provoking statement. He said that there will be no programmers in the next five years, essentially hinting at how ChatGPT and other AI tools will takeover. Mostaque was speaking at a show hosted by author Peter H Diamandis when he made the startling revelation. The CEO appeared in the episode titled ‘Why AI Matters And How To Deal With The Coming Change.’ Mostaque spoke extensively about the current state of AI and his vision in his interaction with the author. He said that the future for humans doesn’t look too bright while concluding the interview. To substantiate his claim, the CEO said that data from GitHub revealed that 41 per cent of all code right now is AI-generated. Further asserting the rising popularity of AI, Mostaque said that in just three months it overtook Bitcoin and Ethereum in GitHub. ChatGPT on your mobile phone without internet The CEO also claimed that by the end of the next year, people will have ChatGPT on their smartphones without the internet. His statement signifies a major shift in the way we use technology and AI assuming an integral role in it. The video interview also saw the duo discuss the fear and hope that has been associated with AI-related developments. The conversation focuses on the importance of providing valuable information to humans. Mostaque also touched upon how generative AI was impacting various sectors including Hollywood, healthcare and education. During the conversation, Mostaque also compares AI to a talented intern analyst with a bad memory. AI models for all sectors In the interview, Mostaque went on to discuss a wide range of projects that Stability AI is currently working on. He told the host that he aims to help provide the building blocks for a ‘Society OS’ - essentially creating AI models for all sectors and modalities including video, audio, DNA, chemical reactions, language, etc. The CEO said that the models were being developed for sectors from banking to governance, and even national models based on different countries. Mostaque said that with AI, one can push Internet intelligence to the edge, allowing all to create their own AI systems. This according to the CEO essentially means that everyone can have AI work for them and not against them. The duo also discussed the potential of machine learning research and the development of the Transformer model. He said that his company has been scaling the Transformer model using massive supercomputers. He also claimed that their new supercomputer is 10 times faster than the one with NASA.
