2023 was a surprising year for AI – the company long considered as the AI top dog lost at its own game to a startup unheard of by many before its meteoric rise. Caught off guard, Google scrambled to catch up with its own AI chatbot offering in the form of Bard, but that was proved unremarkable by users, at least when compared to others in the race. Now the search engine giant looks geared to dethrone OpenAI with a fresh start – a new family of AI models called Gemini that’s seemingly built from the ground up.
