Circle to Search is without a doubt one of the most useful features Google has added to Android in the last few years. The Google Search powered functionality not only lets you quickly search for anything on the screen, but also ask questions about it. Now, it looks like Google may be planning to bring a similar feature to Gemini, its in-house developed AI chatbot.

First spotted by Android Authority, Google recently posted a video on its Instagram account where it showcased Gemini’s screen-sharing capabilities. While these features are already available, if you closely look at the start of the video, it looks like the developers are adding a new option called “Circle Search (DF)”.

For those wondering, DF is a short form for ‘Dog Food’, a term often used by companies when it is internally testing new products or features before making them available to the public. As it turns out, the video seems to be recorded by a Google employee who used the DogFood version of Gemini to record the video.

While Google hasn’t confirmed that the functionality is currently being tested, the Circle Screen feature might let users circle a part of their screen and feed it to Gemini as an attachment. This can come in handy as users will no longer have to capture their screen manually and then attach it to Gemini, saving a lot of time in the process.

There is a possibility that Google might let Gemini powered Circle Search and Google Search backed Circle to Search to co-exist, but the tech giant may integrate them in the future. The report states that the functionality does not exist outside of the video, and that it might be used by Google internally at the moment, meaning we may have to wait a while before Gemini gets its very own Circle to Search.
