Google’s AI Overviews is powered by Gemini AI’s multi-step reasoning, planning and multimodality capability. In the coming days, users will also be able to adjust the overview by asking it to ‘simplify’ or ‘break it down’. In the coming days, users will also be able to take videos and use the same as a search input on Google Lens.
How to enable AI overviews on Google?
To enable AI overviews on your Google account, go to labs.google.com/search.
Make sure you have logged in using the primary email ID, and once enabled, Google Search, and all the devices associated with that specific email ID, will gain the AI Overviews capability.
Once enabled, when you search for something on Google, the top result will be from the new feature. It works on select web browsers, Google app, and Chrome desktop. Do note that disabling it will not disable AI Overviews outside of Google Labs.
The content from AI Overviews includes brief points along with links to articles and videos from the web. According to Google, “Generative AI is experimental. Quality and availability may vary”. The company also states that it might use people’s interactions with these experiences, including human review to improve the quality of the results and products.
