Microsoft Edge is getting a bunch of new features including the ability to rewrite text using Copilot, the GPT-4 powered AI chatbot. The latest version of the Chromium-based browser – version 124 enables users to use Copilot’s Compose feature without having to bring up the sidebar.
In a recent blog post, the tech giant said that the functionality works with editable text fields and lets users quickly rewrite a part of the text or the entire document using suggestions powered by Copilot.
To use the new functionality, simply select the text you want to edit in any text input field and you will see a new button called ‘Rewrite with Copilot’. Doing so will bring up a rectangle-shaped overlay where you can quickly replace your selected text with AI suggestions. This is handy since you don’t manually have to copy, paste and replace the selected text with the new one.
Users can also click on the ‘Adjust’ button to change the tone, format and length. In case you find it annoying to press the rewrite with Copilot every time you AI-powered suggestions, it can be used by selecting the text you want to modify and using the ‘Alt + I’ shortcut.
The ability to modify and generate text using Copilot has been available to Microsoft Edge users for quite a while now, but it was pretty much limited to the Copilot sidebar. However, the recent update makes it easy for users to quickly make changes to text, saving time in the process.
