Ever imagined yourself creating entire 3D models just by typing a description from your keyboard, much similar to DALL-E 3 or Midjourney? This is now possible, as chipmaker NVIDIA and 3D platform Masterpiece Studio have collaborated to launch a new text-to-3D AI playground called Masterpiece X - Generate. The core objective of the new tool is to simplify 3D art creation. Interestingly, the new tool can be operated from a web browser and does not require any prior knowledge of 3D modelling. According to the company, to create 3D models ‘all you need is a keyboard, a browser, a little imagination, and just a few words.’ “For years, we've worked hard to create cutting-edge 3D tools that are intuitive but also tools that would enable and empower more and more people to start creating 3D,” the company said in its official post. With Masterpiece X - Generate, users simply need to describe what they want to see and the AI model will generate it. Although the output may not be useful for AAA game assets, it can be a great way to explore new ideas and prototyping the same. The output from the model, according to the company, is compatible with software such as Unity, Unreal Engine, and Blender. As of now, Masterpiece X - Generate works on a credit system with 250 free credits on creating an account. However, the makers have plans for future updates and expansions. After creating an account, users are asked to pick between options such as object, human body, or animal. Next, they are to add a description and later add their preferred colours. Once you have typed your requirements, the tool takes nearly two to eight minutes to create the desired 3D model. As the tool is busy creating the model, users can leaf through the 3D models created by fellow users from the library on the website. We tried the Masterpiece X - Generate with the prompt ‘A futuristic gazebo with blue and silver shades’. The website also offers a free tutorial for anyone who wants to ace the AI tool. Reportedly, the assets created by the tool are compatible with all the popular 3D software. The tool also works on mobile devices. According to experts, the new tool is a step in the right direction as this will make 3D more accessible as users are not required to have any special skills. Areas such as game development, product design, and architecture can greatly benefit from the new AI playground. Although the model is far from perfect, if Masterpiece Studio consistently upgrades the tool, then it will have the potential to save time and reduce cost compared to the traditional 3D software. 3D models have a plethora of use cases across industries. In architecture, they are used to create detailed designs and visualisations of buildings and spaces. When it comes to product design, 3D models showcase products from different angles and perspectives enabling companies to better their products. In gaming and entertainment, 3D modelling allows to creation of realistic environments and characters. They are also used in education and training to offer interactive and immersive experiences.
