Oppo announced its first generative AI-backed feature for the global market called Oppo AI Eraser, which works similarly to OnePlus’s Magic Eraser. The feature will soon be rolled out to the Oppo Reno 11 series of smartphones, and in the coming days, it will be made available for other eligible Oppo smartphones.

Oppo AI Eraser is a photo editing tool backed by generative AI technology. The feature can help users remove unwanted subjects from a picture, and when removed, it will also smartly reconstruct the background to make it look like a regular image. This feature will soon be available on select Oppo smartphones running on the latest version of ColorOS 14. OnePlus also recently introduced AI Eraser for flagship devices like the OnePlus 12 and the OnePlus 11R, offering the exact same functionality on select OnePlus smartphones, including the newly announced OnePlus Nord CE 4.
Oppo’s AI Eraser can be accessed within the photos app. However, to use this feature, the device needs to have an active internet connection. Users can remove unwanted objects from an image by selecting the AI eraser, which has two tools: smart lasso and paint over. While one can remove a subject, the other can paint over a subject. This feature is currently limited to select markets, and the company has confirmed that more Oppo smartphones will gain these capabilities in the coming days.
A similar tool is also available on the Samsung Galaxy S23/24 series of smartphones running on OneUI 6.1 with Galaxy AI features. Google was actually the first company to introduce Magic Eraser for Pixel phones back in 2023, which is now available for users with a Google One subscription via the Google Photos app.
