Zoom Video Communications on Tuesday, March 18, unveiled a slew of new AI updates to be integrated across its suite of products for consumers and enterprises including Zoom Meetings, Zoom Team Chat, Zoom Docs, Zoom Phone, Zoom Whiteboard, Zoom Contact Center, and other offerings.
The video-conferencing platform said it will be updating the Zoom AI Companion with new agentic AI skills so that it can take action on behalf of users and perform certain tasks such as calendar management, generating clips, providing writing assistance, and more.
“AI Companion is evolving from a personal assistant to being truly agentic, which signals a major leap forward in how AI can enhance productivity and collaboration at work,” Smita Hashim, chief product officer at Zoom, said in a statement.
The company is also expanding access to AI agents (via its AI Companion) to its Zoom Business Services. “Zoom Revenue Accelerator users will also be able to benefit from a specialised agent for sales in the coming months to help increase revenue through automated insights, personalised outreach and enhanced prospecting,” it said.
Zoom further teased an “open platform” that will let users prompt third-party agents such as ServiceNow AI Agents. Users will also be able to create their own AI agents tailored to their specific needs such as streamlining sales RFPs or IT and HR service requests.
In addition, the company will be rolling out specialised AI agents for customer care support as part of its Zoom Contact Center offering.
The non-agentic AI features being rolled out under Zoom’s AI Companion include custom AI avatars, access to small language models (SLMs) developed in-house, real-time summaries during a meeting or phone call, internal and external information search capabilities, and more.
It has announced industry-specific AI solutions as well, such as Zoom Workplace for Frontline Workers which involves streamlining on-shift communications and work management, Zoom Workplace for Clinicians which involves automatically generating clinical notes in the office or a virtual Zoom telehealth appointment, and Zoom Workplace for Education which involves providing AI-generated lecture summaries with supporting material that teachers can use to generate assignments.
