The new Raspberry Pi 2 credit-card sized computer has arrived. The new version runs on a 900MHz quad-core ARM Cortex-A7 CPU with 1GB LPDDR2 SDRAM. The Pi 2 costs $35, the same as the existing Model B+ version. It is completely compatible with the older Raspberry Pi versions.
“As it has an ARMv7 processor, it can run the full range of ARM GNU/Linux distributions, including Snappy Ubuntu Core, as well as Microsoft Windows 10,” said Eben Upton, CEO and Founder, Raspberry Pi in a statement. The version 2 comes with the new version 1.4 of NOOBS software. Version 1.3 of NOOBS is not compatible. The Raspberry Pi 2, reportedly, is similar to the earlier B+ model, so, cases for B+ model will fit in.
“For the last six months we’ve been working closely with Microsoft to bring the forthcoming Windows 10 to Raspberry Pi 2. The Raspberry Pi 2-compatible version of Windows 10 will be available free of charge to makers,” added Upton.
