Samsung has announced that its Samsung Gear VR headset for consumers is now available for pre-orders at $99. The device runs on Oculus VR software and will be available on Amazon.com, Samsung.com and BestBuy.com. According to the Oculus blog, the Gear VR weighs 310 grams, 19 per cent lighter than the Innovator Edition launched earlier. The Gear VR comes with a redesigned touchpad and is compatible with Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, S6 and S6 Edge. The device is listed for shipping on November 20. [related-post] The Gear VR headset attempts to take users one step closer to reality with Oculus 360 Photos app which comes bundled with more than 2,00,000 photographs for full immersive 360 degree viewing. Samsung's Gear VR is also pre-loaded with more than 20 classic games including Pac-Man, Sonic and Gauntlet. Oculus says several brand new games specifically designed for Gear VR like Land's End, Bandit Six: Salvo and Dead Secret are also available. The Oculus blog reveals that Gear VR will give its users an access to the entire Netflix catalog of original series, documentaries and Oculus Video with more than 70 feature films in 3D.
