Samsung recently launched new foldables, earbuds, wearables and a smart ring at the recently concluded Galaxy Unpacked event, but many of us might have overlooked the company's announcement about its upcoming XR headset. While the South Korean tech giant did not officially show the device at the event, Samsung's mobile division president TM Roh did mention in his endnote that the company plans to launch a new mixed reality headset in the coming months. "Looking forward, we're collaborating to bring next-generation experiences across Galaxy products from smartphones and wearables to even future technologies like the upcoming XR platform we've been working closely to develop in partnership with Samsung and Qualcomm", added Rick Osterloh, Google's senior vice president of Platform and Devices. And while Roh did not share a timeline on when its XR headset will be coming to the market, rumour has it that the Apple Vision Pro competitor is in the final stages of development. Samsung's upcoming mixed reality headset might be powered by Qualcomm's new Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip, which also powers the Meta Quest 3, but new leaks suggest that it may pack the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 3, which is expected to arrive soon. On the software side of things, Google seems to be working with Samsung and it looks like Sony might help supply the micro-OLED screens. While it is still unclear how much Samsung's XR headset will cost, we expect it to be in the same range as the Apple Vision Pro, but we will have to wait and see since things may change down the line.
