Rockstar Games, the gaming studio behind the GTA franchise recently confirmed that Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) will be coming to the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series S sometime in September, and now a report suggests that the game will go all-in on user-generated content.

According to a recent report by Digiday, Rockstar Games is currently in talks with some of the top Roblox, Fortnite and some GTA creators to bring “custom experiences” to GTA 6.

Citing three industry sources with knowledge of the matter, the report goes on to claim that some of these experiences might allow creators to modify things like the game environment and assets and even create their own intellectual property.

If true, this will mean that players will be able to enjoy user made maps and gameplay experiences when playing online.

While Rockstar Games are yet to comment on the matter, it is still unclear how the presence of user generated content would allow creators to earn money. For those not in the know, UGC creators often earn money by selling in-game items or via revenue sharing programs.

If we take a look at GTA 5, the game has managed to stay relevant even 12 years after launch, and one of the reasons behind the game’s commercial success can be attributed to the modding community and creators like FiveM, which previously allowed gamers to enjoy GTA V in a multiplayer environment.

Ten years ago, Rockstar had initially banned some of these creators including FiveM, but later on went to acquire the team that developed the mod.
