The iPhone 14 series comes with satellite connectivity to help users in emergencies when they are out of cellular coverage. While the feature will be available on the entire iPhone 14 series later this year with iOS 16, there are a few things you should know about it first. With the launch of the iPhone 14-series, Apple has killed some of its older iPhone models. This includes the iPhone 11, iPhone 12 mini and the iPhone 13 Pro-series. While Apple will not be selling these iPhones officially anymore, you still may be able to find them for sale on e-commerce sites or with retailers.

With the older models dropped, Apple has stopped selling its last 4G phone, which was the iPhone 11. The oldest iPhone you can now buy is the iPhone 12, and the most affordable iPhone right now is the new iPhone SE 2022, both of which are 5G phones.

For those who missed it, Apple's iOS 16 and watcOS 9 will start rolling out on September 12, which next Monday. Apple typically rolls out the software around evening India time so keep that in mind. Apple iOS 16 rolls out iPhone 8 and above (iPhone SE 2 is included) but keep in mind many of the features are limited to iPhone XS and above. Apple's watchOS 9 rolls out to Watch Series 4 an above. 

The Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro series is a much more active use of the new notch and can show activities from other apps to users as well. Check out our video showing how the Dynamic Island works on the iPhone 14 Pro series. 

If you're wondering how Apple has priced the entire range of its new product, we have the list here for you. The iPhone 14 starts at Rs 79,900 for 128GB storage, but each higher storage variant will cost Rs 10,000 extra. So the 256GB version costs Rs 89,900. The same trend continues with the iPhone 14 Plus which starts at Rs 89,900 for the base 128GB and then an extra Rs 10,000 for the 256GB. The iPhone 14 Pro starts at Rs 1,29,900 with another Rs 10k for the next storage. 

Apple announced a number of products at its September event, and here are the three things that impressed me the most. No, I'm not talking about the 48MP camera on the iPhone 14 Pro. The first is the Apple Watch Ultra, which is will definitely have an appeal for several folks, even the non-Pro athletes. The second is the Dynamic Island notch on the iPhone 14 Pro, which is definitely a unique take on the much criticised notch. And finally, the AirPods Pro 2 come with some serious noise cancellation as I experienced in the demo zone. Read more here. 

While the iPhone 14 series may have stolen the show, the Apple Watch Ultra may actually be the most innovative product that was announced during the event.

With the iPhone 14 Pro series, Apple has revamped the notch both from a hardware and software perspective. It now functions as a 'Dynamic Island' capable of showing some interesting animations depending on the app being used. Check out the feature in action. 

Check out the Apple Watch Series 8 below.  The Watch Series 8 will cost Rs 45,900 in India. The Watch SE 2 will start at Rs 29,900.

Here's a closer look at the new iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro series from the demo zone at the Steve Jobs Theatre.  

Indian customers can get iPhone 14 for Rs 79,900 and and iPhone 14 Plus for Rs 89,900. Sales begin September 16 for the iPhone 14, while the iPhone 14 Plus will be available from October 7. 

Apple iPhone 14 Pro starts at $999 and Pro Max at $1099. So Apple has not increased the prices. The India prices are not yet out, but they should be soon. 

The bigger camera sensor gets in more light making the Pro models much better in low light photography. Computational photography goes a notch up with ability to clarify images to show more detail, even in low-light conditions. The quad pixel sensor is capturing more information with each click. And the video quality also goes up many notches with the new action mode that stabilises all videos without a gimbal. And, cinematic videos now get 4K resolution.

The A16 Bionic processor is now limited to the iPhone 14 Pro models and lets the phones do a lot of new stuff including a 1Hz display refresh rate and an amped up camera with 48MP  quad pixel sensor, the largest ever on an iPhone.

Apple iPhone 14 Pro camera is being discussed. It is getting a serious upgrade. The main camera is now 48MP, though the image is 12MP when shot. The 12MP telephoto camera gets a 48mm focal length to make it more suited for Portraits. Users can now use ProRaw to shoot at 48MP resolution. 

Apple Watch Ultra will costs Rs 89,900. It will be open for pre-orders today. Apple says watchOS 9 will be available for Apple Watch Series 4 and later on Monday, September 12, and requires iPhone 8 or later and iPhone SE (2nd generation) or later running iOS 16. 

This one has two high-performance cores, and four efficiency cores. It has a new GPU as well. A16 has a more advanced neural engine as well. The ISP has also been upgraded to support the new cameras on the iPhone 14 Pro.  

At 2000 nits of maximum brightness, the iPhone 14 Pro definitely has the brightest display on the market. The iPhone 14 Pro comes with A16 Bionic chipset of course. It is power efficient, according to Apple. It has 16 billion transistors. It is built on the 4nm process for greater efficiency. 

With the iPhone 14 Pro series, Apple has made the problem of the notch an opportunity by launching the concept of the dynamic island that shows alert, album art and controls in the larger dark block in the middle of the screen.

The iPhone 14 Pro is here with a dynamic island notch, which will change based on the activity that you're doing or the app you might have open. For instance, when the music app is open, the notch will display a different kind of animation. 

The iPhone 14 Pro is here and it looks stunning in a new purple colour.  The deep purple colour is what Apple calls it. And yes, the notch is now redesigned and it is pill shaped. 

Apple iPhone 14 starts at $799; the iPhone 14 Plus at $899. The phones go for pre-order on September 9. Apple iPhone 14 will go on sale on September 16, while the Plus variant will be available on October 16. 

Apple is keeping this service free for the first two years with the iPhone. Also the satellite connectivity feature iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus will be limited to the US and Canada markets for now. 

Apple is bringing emergency SOS via Satellite connectivity to the iPhone 14 series. Both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus will support this feature. We don't know if this will work in India or if Apple will get permission for this. 

Apple iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus also get crash detection as seen on the Watch Series 8. 

Apple is pushing eSIM in a big way. No SIM tray in the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus US models. 

The iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 14 cameras continue with the 12MP+12MP setup, but Apple says it is using a bigger sensor for the main 12MP camera and an improved 12MP selfie camera as well. It is promising improved low-light performance as well. The front camera is also getting autofocus as well. Apple says the low-light performance is improved on all three camera signficantly this time, thanks to the software. Apple is also improving the video quality on the iPhone 14. There's a new Action Mode to make the video loo a lot more stable. 

Apple iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are here. And yes, there is a purple coloured iPhone. Apple iPhone 14 Plus gets the 6.7-inch OLED display. But the notch is the same guys. And yes, Apple sticks with the A15 Bionic chipset on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. Apple is bringing the 5-core GPU to the iPhone 14 series this time. 

Apple AirPods Pro 2 will cost $249. They go up for pre-order on September 9 and sales start September 23.  

They also come with Touch control to let users control volume with a light swipe up or down. If you lose the charging case, you will be able to find it easily as well. Apple has added a speaker to the case as well to ensure a sound is played if and when you lose it. Apple users can now use their Apple Watch charger to juice up the AirPods Pro 2. 

Apple's AirPods Pro 2 come with new H2 chip, a custom amplifier. 'More detail and clarity' is what Apple is promising. Apple AirPods Pro 2 now supports Spatial Audio as well. It will also support personalised Spatial Audio based on your ear shape and size using the TrueDepth camera on the iPhone. It will come with advanced Active Noise Cancellation as well. 

AirPods Pro 2 are up next, announces Tim Cook. These are the most popular headphones in the world and our most popular model, says Cook. 

The Apple Watch Ultra gets a brand new price as well. It starts $799. It will go on sale from September 23. 

Apple Watch Ultra gets a redesigned compass app which is a lot more accurate. The watch can also put out a loud signal in case you need help. It is also geared for heavy duty water sports. And yes, you can take the Watch Ultra for deep diving sessions as well, including those scuba diving activities. Yes, you can take the watch for your diving sessions. 

The Apple Watch Ultra is very different from earlier watches and takes everything to the extreme from durability, connectivity and battery life which can extend up to 60 hours. Apple Watch Ultra has a new precision dual frequency GPS (L1 and L5). It provides most accurate GPS claims Apple. Apple Watch Ultra will also have new views during the workout session. The action button will let triathletes transition from one part of the race to the other.  

Apple Watch Ultra is geared for the pros. Comes with a special case. It has a 49mm case as well with one of the biggest displays. It also gets dedicated action button. It has two speakers for increased volume. It will have voice clarity even in windy conditions. It supports cellular by default on all variants. It has 36 hours of battery life. It can even give six-day battery life. It has a new Wayfinder Watch face to help users find directions especially when they are out hiking in the wild. 

It is time for the Apple Watch Pro. Yes, it is aimed at elite athletes, experts, those who run marathons, triathlons, etc. 

Apple Watch SE 2 will come with many features on the Series 8. This includes crash detection, family setup. It comes with the faster S8 chip as well just like the Series 8. The price is $249 for GPS and $299 for cellular. It goes on sale on September 16 as well. 

Ooh, it looks like the Apple Watch SE 2 is coming. The new Apple Watch SE (2022) will come in new colours with a redesigned backcase. 

Apple Watch Series 8 starts at $399 for the GPS version and $499 for the cellular version. It will be available for pre-order today and sale starts September 16. 

Apple is introducing low-power mode to give users 36 hours of battery life on one charge. The Apple Watch will disable the Always-On display when this mode is turned on without disrupting the user experience. The feature is coming to Series 4 and above on Watch OS 9. Apple is also bringing international roaming on Watch Series 5 and above.  

It looks like the Apple Watch Series 8 will be able to detect if you're in a car crash. Apple is relying on a host of sensors in the watch and its special algorithm to help detect these crashes in vehicles such as cars, trucks and SUVs. It only works when you are driving. 

It is interesting why Apple is introducing this feature. This is aimed at helping women decode their period cycle better, which frankly is often ignored. It will be interesting to use this because as Apple says it can give a bigger picture into one's menstrual health, and of course, help track in ovulation. 

Apple started with the new Apple Watch Series 8 which gets a lot of incremental updates including temperature sensor which helps women keep tabs on ovulation as part of their cycle tracking. Dr Sumbul Desai, VP Health, explained that the new Series 8 has a temperature sensor on the back crystal near the skin, and another, just under the display. The sensor will monitor the baseline temperature over a period of time. It will track temperature changes to help women understand their ovulation cycle. For women who are trying to conceive, this could be useful.  

Apple COO Jeff Williams is on stage to talk about the Series 8. Series is dust proof, swim proof and crack proof, he says. It's got a slightly bigger display, but we don't know the exact screen size just yet. And yes, it continues with the ECG sensor, the A-Fib detection. It now comes with a temperature sensor as well as predicted it focuses on women's health. 

Cook opens up the keynote to talk about how Apple has ensure seamless integration across products. And he's right. Apple's ecosystem works seamlessly, and that's something most Android phones can only dream about. It looks like the Apple Watch will be the first product that gets revealed. The first video has users talking about how the Apple Watch saved their lives. Apple Watch can detect falls, irregular heart rhythm, A-Fib and very high heart-rates as well. 

Nandagopal Rajan: Tim Cook says he's happy the event is back to physical. But the event is actually a hybrid, the real Cook has given way to a pre-recorded film on the screen. Again, this makes the Apple Event more accessible.
