Apple is introducing new features related to battery health monitoring on the iPhone 15 series with the upcoming iOS 17.4 update. According to the official support page, iPhone 15 series users will soon be able to get more information regarding their smartphone battery, which includes cycle count, manufacturing and the first use date of the battery.

Until now, Apple only offered information like battery health and maximum capacity. With the upcoming update, Apple is offering more insights into the battery health of the newest iPhones. This feature will be available on the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. With the iPhone 15, Apple also introduced a USB-C port and these devices also come with an easy-to-replace back panel, making them repair-friendly compared to their predecessors.

Apple also seems to have made significant improvements in the battery chemistry. According to the company, an iPhone 15 series device will retain 80 per cent of its original capacity, even after 1,000 charge cycles, while the same was rated at 500 charge cycles for the previous generation smartphone. This means, an iPhone 15 should continue to offer the same level of battery backup for the first three years under ideal conditions, and all the batteries on iPhones come with the standard one-year of warranty.

Since the battery gate fiasco back in 2020, where, Apple underclocked the processor on iPhones with degraded batteries to prevent the shutdown of iPhones, the company has been focusing on several battery-related features, which include the display of battery health, the ability to limit the peak charging percentage to 80 per cent, and it also offers insight regarding the peak performance capability of the device due to battery health.
