Made by Google Event Highlights: Google launched its new Pixel 9 series of smartphones at the “Made by Google” event in Mountain View, California, US, on August 13. The latest Pixel 9 series includes four models, namely: Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The Google Pixel Watch 3 and the Pixel Buds Pro 2 was also introduced at the same event.
Additionally, Google showed off several new AI features such as Gemini Live which lets users have a more free-flowing conversation with the company’s virtual AI assistant. The Pixel 9 devices will also be shipped with a slew of new generative AI features such as Call Notes, Add Me, and more.

Gemini Live may have vision capabilities soon as it is being integrated with Project Astra developed by Google Deepmind. It will also be able to help users with research and create research reports.
In a live demo, Google demonstrated how to use Gemini Live with the Pixel Buds Pro 2. Users have to simply hold press one of the buds to activate the AI voice assistant and ask questions.
This feature can detect if someone has lost their pulse, is non-responsive, and alert emergency services for help. It is built keeping in mind people who lose their pulse with no around them to call emergency services, Google said.
The Pixel Watch 3 comes with Google AI and several other fitness capabilities such as continuous heart rate tracking as well as a custom workout builder with the Fitbit app.
With the Add Me feature, users can add themselves to photos of other people even if they weren't part of the original photo.
Google says it has rebuilt the HDR+ pipeline to improve image quality on Pixel 9 devices. As a result, panorama photos can be processed and converted into Night Sight.
It will help Pixel 9 users save, organise, and more easily recall the screenshots they take. It can also remember from where the screenshot was taken.
Gemini Nano generates AI weather reports on the Pixel Weather app based on current data. It will be available on all Pixel 9 phones.
Google introduces the much-awaited Pixel 9 Pro Fold with an 8-inch Super Actua display.
Tensor G4 was developed in collaboration with Google Deepmind optimised for the on-device model in Pixel 9. Google claims it is the most capable on-device AI model ever shipped on a phone.
Jenny Blackburn, Vice President of UX, Gemini Experiences, and Google Assistant, gives a demo of interaction with Gemini Live. The host is asking Gemini for ideas for fun activities for her nephew and niece, who are visiting soon. Following the successof the demo, Blackburn announced that Gemini Live will be available on the Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold
With Gemini Live, you can have a free-flowing conversation, interrupt, or change topics with Google's AI assistant. It is available to Gemini Advanced subscribers and over the next few weeks, it will be available on Pixel, Samsung, and other Android devices.
A live demo of using Gemini AI to book concert tickets took some to work out the way it was supposed to. However, the task was successfully completed after some tries.

While all new phones will be powered by the new Tensor G4 chipset, the Pixel 9 Pro may almost all the features the Pixel 9 Pro XL has to offer in a compact package. As for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, it is said to feature a redesigned camera island that looks unlike any Pixel series phone we have seen so far.
At Made by Google 2024, the tech giant is expected to launch Android 15 and rumours suggest that the upgrade of the mobile operating system software will include new and exciting generative AI features. Pixel smartphones have always emphasised software, showcasing the best of Android’s capabilities, and this is likely to continue this year as the upcoming Pixel 9 series is expected to ship with Android 15.
It’s been a while since Google refreshed its flagship TWS, and the upcoming Pixel Buds Pro 2 could pack some interesting upgrades in terms of audio quality, noise cancellation, and battery life.
