Motorola Edge 50 Pro 5G Launch Live Updates: Motorola is set to host its first significant launch event in India today, where it will unveil the Edge 50 Pro smartphone. The Edge 50 Pro is expected to be a mid-range phone, boasting AI-tuned cameras, a larger display, and some Gen AI features baked in.
The new smartphone should help Motorola widen its footprint in the mid-range segment, where the competition is already sky-high from players such as OnePlus, Nothing, and Samsung. However, Motorola is pinning its hopes on the artificial intelligence boom to supercharge its new smartphones. Its rival, Samsung, launched the Galaxy S24 with Gen AI features in January.
The AI software (which leverages Google’s AI chatbot Gemini) offers features such as live translation, AI photo editing capabilities, and “circle to search,” which lets people quickly look up information about an element within a picture, and more. It remains to be seen whether Motorola opts to choose the same route as Samsung in implementing AI as the foundational level on its Edge 50 Pro as Samsung’s.

Showcasing one of the more unusual uses for generative AI, Motorola has unveiled a new feature where you can snap a shot of your outfit for the day and have the phone generate a new matching wallpaper so that the "phone matches your outfit."
The handset features a 1.5K display, which Motorola says provides a 14% denser resolution compared to standard FHD. This is enhanced by a 144Hz refresh rate for buttery smooth visuals.
The Edge 50 Pro utilises AI to deliver great camera performance in both photos and video. Motorola says that its new AI engine improves dynamic range, delivers better details, achieves cleaner bokeh effects, and more.
The Edge 50 Pro is the perfect blend of intelligence and design, Motorola says. The phone will be offered in two finishes - vegan leather and pearl.

The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 may sound like it sits just a notch below the top-of-the-line Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, but the gap actually is a lot wider than what the naming may lead you to believe. Benchmarks show that this chip's performance is comparable to the Snapdragon 888 which powered most 2021 flagships. This isn't a bad thing at all though, provided Motorola prices the handset right.

Ahead of the launch, Motorola has officially confirmed that the Edge 50 Pro is based on the new Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 SoC, making it the second smartphone to launch in India with this chip. The device is also expected to offer up to 12 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage.
