OnePlus is one of the few smartphone manufacturers that often experiments with new designs and camera setups. The company’s co-founder and CEO Pete Lau recently shared a post on the Chinese social media Weibo hinting that the OnePlus 12 will be launched in China on December 4 to celebrate the company’s 10th anniversary.

In the last few months, the rumour mill has been speculating what the much-anticipated flagship phone will offer. From camera to design, here’s everything we know so far about the OnePlus 12.

Design and display

In terms of design, the OnePlus 12 might follow in its predecessor’s footsteps with the company making some changes to the camera island. Recent alleged renders shared by MySmartPrice hint that the OnePlus 12 will look just like the OnePlus 11 on the front and that the power and volume buttons, charging port, alert slider and SIM card slot will have the same position as the OnePlus 11.

However, a screenshot shared by the publication suggests that the company is thinking of shifting the position of the front camera cutout from the top left to the center of the screen. The popular tipster Digital Chat Station has also hinted that the OnePlus 12 will be available in a new white colour with a glossy glass back panel.

As for the display, the OnePlus 12 is expected to feature a bright 120Hz 6,78-inch LTPO AMOLED screen developed in partnership with the Chinese display panel maker BOE. The new panel is expected to bump up the peak brightness to 2,600 nits and have the same 2K resolution as the OnePlus 11. Rumour also has it that the display will offer increased colour accuracy and improved PWM dimming.

Faster chipset and more RAM

The upcoming phone is most likely to feature Qualcomm’s latest and fastest chipset – the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The new chipset has a 1+3+2+2 configuration, making it more powerful than its predecessor when it comes to multi-core benchmarks. The OnePlus 12 might come with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM paired with 256GB UFS 4.0 storage. However, recent leaks also hint at a 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant.

New camera sensors

While OnePlus’ number series is not known for its camera, the upcoming flagship might bring significant improvements to the camera setup. The OnePlus 12 will reportedly feature a 48MP Sony Lytia 808 primary camera, which is the same as the recently launched OnePlus Open, the company’s first foldable phone.

We might also see a 64MP OV64B periscope lens from OmniVision that offers 3x optical zoom and a 48MP Sony IMX966 ultrawide sensor. The new Hasselblad-tuned sensors combined with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3’s improved ISP are expected to bring improved image quality.

OnePlus has also said that it will be borrowing some image algorithms from sister company Oppo which includes a new ‘Ultra-Clear image quality algorithm’ for more clear and accurate looking photos, a Hyperlight and Shadow algorithm for balanced contrast and a Natural Colour algorithm. However, it is still unclear how these would affect the overall image quality.

More battery and wireless charging

The OnePlus 12 is expected to pack a 5,400mAh battery and offer 100W wired charging, but recent reports hint that the smartphone manufacturer might stick with a 5.000mAh battery.

In the last few months, tipsters have hinted that the company might also bring back support for wireless charging and IP rating, something which OnePlus did not offer with the OnePlus 11.

Price and release date

As of now, there is no information on how much the OnePlus 12 will cost, but rumour has it that the upcoming phone may cost the same as the OnePlus 11. However, if OnePlus decides to add wireless charging and an official IP rating, the company might have to increase the price of the phone by a bit.

The OnePlus 12 is all set to launch in China on December 4, but there is no word on when the company will bring the phone to the global market.
