OnePlus has now explained why its newest flagship, OnePlus 6T, lacks features such as notification LED and the Always-on Display. This was reported by GizmoChina, which was able to access an Ask Me Anything session recently held by OnePlus.
The latest flagship OnePlus phone features a waterdrop notch on top, which includes a receiver mic and selfie camera, but no notification LED light. The Chinese company explained that with the presence of lift up display, that allows OnePlus 6T owners to view notifications without the need to unlock the device, its notification LED had become redundant.
Talking about the Always-on Display mode, OnePlus said that the feature’s effect on battery performance reduced its viability for the phone. In addition, the company admitted that it was still evaluating the ‘functional value vs power consumption’, indicating that Always-on Display could be brought back to OnePlus 6, or introduced to OnePlus 6T through a software update.

When asked about the absence of IP certification for the OnePlus 6T, OnePlus CEO Carl Pei said that the phone’s design did not account for ‘edge cases’, such as water resistance or performance in extreme weather conditions. Instead, Pei said the flagship can accommodate more ‘everyday scenarios’, that could include accidental drops or water spills. OnePlus also confirmed that it will introduce a glass screen protector for OnePlus 6T.
While the company does not appear to have made any statement about the missing 3.5mm headphone jack, it has listed a Red variant of the OnePlus Bullets Wireless headphones. The new Bullets variant has been found on the OnePlus India website, and will be made available at Rs 3,999.
