Sony in collaboration with ZMP Inc, a robotics company based in Tokyo, has released videos of two prototype drones designed to inspect areas that are otherwise difficult to access. The new company called Aerosense aims to offer services early next year.

The AS-DTO1-E prototype drone is designed like a miniature air plane that is capable of vertical take-off and landing. As reported by Wall Street Journal, the prototype drone is capable of carrying objects up to 22 pounds and has a maximum flying time of two hours at maximum speed of 106 miles per hour.

The AS-MCO1-P looks like a traditional quadcopter featuring a camera, GPS and navigation system. Speaking to WSJ, Hisashi Taniguchi, chief executive of Aerospace and ZMP, said: “By making it automated, drones will be considerably safer because many of accidents today are caused by human errors.”

Amazon had earlier announced its plans to use drones for delivering packages while Facebook is working on drones for delivering high speed data services.
