Meta Threads starts showing real-time search results for some users

Ever since its launch in July last year, Threads has been lacking a new feature that lets users search recent posts on the platform. However, that might soon change as the app is currently testing the functionality.

Meta’s latest social media network and rival to Twitter – Threads is finally getting a new feature that enables users to filter search results to show the latest posts on the platform. After some Threads users noticed a new button that let them sort search results, Instagram head Adam Mosseri clarified that the feature is part of a “limited test” and is only available to a handful of users.

Going by a screenshot shared by a Threads user named Daniel Rodriguez, who was part of the limited test shared a screenshot where a new ‘Recent’ button appeared alongside a ‘Top’ button when they searched for something on Threads. While the Recent filter does not seem to show results chronologically, it is still better than the current iteration where Threads users are shown old algorithm-based posts instead of the latest ones.

Meta has been cautious about bringing the ability to search the latest posts on Threads, with Mosseri saying in December last year that it would create a “substantial safety loophole”. Earlier this year in January, the Meta-owned social media accidentally rolled out the option to show recent posts but was quick to pull it.

Currently, the ability to sort search results seems to be limited to a handful of users, but it looks like Threads might soon make it available to everyone. This may seem like a minor change, but the lack of ability to search recent posts on Threads has limited users from getting information about the current events.
