Instagram, the Meta-owned photo and video-sharing platform is reportedly testing a new feature called Unseen Story Highlights, which, as the name suggests, lets users see content from friends they might have missed.
According to a recent report by TechCrunch, these Story Highlights are from a user’s mutual followers and appear at the end of the Story section, which appears in a separate section on the top of the app.
In a statement to the publication, a Meta spokesperson said “We’re always working on new ways to help people connect in Stories and are testing bringing recent Highlights to the end of the tray with a small group of people.”

With Instagram now filled with random Reels and sponsored posts, the new functionality is useful since it gives users a quick way to keep up with the latest updates from their friends.
For those wondering, the unseen Story Highlights section won’t show Stories from friends that disappear after a period of 24 hours, but will only display Story Highlights, which are curated lists of Stories users have saved on their profile.
The company also told the publication that users will be able to see unseen Story Highlights from last week. However, it will only appear when you get through all current Stories, meaning you may never see it if you follow a whole lot of people and never get to the end of the Stories section.
