OnePlus India in collaboration with SwiftKey has announced that Padlock was the most popular emoji during Diwali. The study says Indians sent Padlock as an emoji 11 times more often than usual.

The study was conducted by SwiftKey which is one of the most popular smartphone keyboard supporting different Indian launguages. The emoji report analyses emoji typed by people in 22 different Indian languages.

“Emoji is one of the fastest growing digital languages, and it’s astonishing to see how people have started expressing such a large variety of emotions through their smartphones,” said Karan Sarin, Head of Marketing – India, OnePlus.

“People all over the world are now using them to better express themselves through their devices in more creative, personal ways – an aspiration that’s really close to our hearts at SwiftKey. To this end, we have invested in India to make SwiftKey the only keyboard to give mobile users emoji predictions in 22 Indian languages,” said Ben Medlock, Co-Founder and CTO, SwiftKey.

Interestingly, the report also found explosions and stars to be very popular over the festive period.

The Padlock emoji was popular among users in North and East India while cocktail gained popularity in South India. In West India, the most popular emoji was arrow indicating the ‘Super se bhu uppar’ sentiment.
