WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new way that lets you scan QR codes to view and join channels on the platform. Currently under development, the upcoming functionality is aimed at making it easier for users to find and follow new channels.
According to a recent report by WABetaInfo, the new feature is currently available for those who are on the latest WhatsApp beta for both Android and iOS. As you can see in the image below, scanning the QR code using the phone’s camera will redirect users to the channel, which they can view and join if it meets their interests.
Compared to traditional methods of sharing a channel, which involves copying and pasting a link in the chat, the new method is more convenient, especially when the person you want to join is in front of you.
For business owners, this can be even more useful as they will be able to print the QR code on things like business cards, posters, and flyers amongst other things. However, like most features that are currently in beta, it is still unclear the functionality will be rolling out on the stable channel, so you might have to wait a while before it is available on your device.
In the last couple of weeks, WhatsApp has been rolling out several new functionalities like the ability to transcribe voice messages and recently spotted another feature that lets you add custom messages when forwarding text, images or links.
