Music is a personal experience. We often attach memories to our favourite tracks, and the more you listen to these songs, you tend to unlock new details. While finding new meanings and perspectives to songs may be a human tendency, technology does play a part. Today, I rarely live at home without my AirPods or any other TWS I may be using. I got the Sony WF-C510 wireless stereo earbuds last week, and I haven’t been able to keep them away.

I am aware that anyone looking for TWS earbuds may be entrapped in an ocean of options. A quick search for the best earbuds will throw up hundreds of them, in all kinds and sizes, making one spoilt for choice.

In this review, I will underscore all the things I liked about the WF-C510.

Design and fit

Well, the first words that come to mind to describe the feeling when I first tried these earbuds are – comfort and lightweight. WF-C510 is designed to sit snugly in your ears. Honestly, this is the first time I am using a pop form factor, as I am used to the stemmed in-ears from Apple. Although, my first thoughts bordered on questions like – what if it falls off? Or what if I lose it? These were the most plausible concerns as these are tiny blobs of awesome sound that may get lost in your bag. Cast aside the worries, for the design is a fusion of aesthetics and practicality.

For the review, I got the blue shade of WF-C510. The blue is mellow, more on the pastel shade of sky. The texture on the case feels papery. The case is solid, feels sturdy to the touch and each earpiece surprisingly retains the same sensation. The earbuds have a rounded design with a matte finish and their flat and wider surface seems to have been designed for easy access and operations.

Incidentally, this is Sony’s smallest-ever closed-type earbuds. With the compact form factor, these earbuds fit ears of all sizes. They seem to be designed using extensive research as they fit in well with the distinct sensitivity of each user.

It’s Sony after all!

When it comes to audio quality, I had no apprehensions, and the earbuds did not disappoint. From death metal to mellow pop, all kinds of music come to life in this power-packed device. Regardless of its compact size, the sound quality is uncompromising. Ultra-clear sound is what sets this TWS apart. I tried the iconic Kannalane or Kehna Hi Kya from Mani Ratnam’s celebrated drama Bombay. The silken voice of KS Chitra and AR Rahman’s vocalisation makes you truly jubilant as no detail of this fine composition is lost.

The WF-C510 comes with a Digital Sound Enhancement Engine which delivers high-quality audio, offering an authentic music experience. Being a Radiohead fan, I enjoyed listening to Karma Police and No Surprises. Most Radiohead songs such as Paranoid Android, Exit Music, You and Whose Army etc, start quiet and explode towards the end. With these Sony earbuds, your sense of anticipation is heightened, owing to its clarity.

The TWS comes with well-balanced sound-tuning access from low to high frequencies and this, I felt while listening to some of my favourite tracks from the dream pop genre. With vocals sounding natural, listening to podcasts felt like sitting in a room with Lewis Howes or Andrew Huberman. The device comes with Ambient Sound mode which lets you hear your surroundings clearly while enjoying music.

Battery life and call quality

Sony claims that the earbuds are designed for everyday convenience and offer a battery life of 22 hours and a quick charge of five minutes giving a playback of an hour. I found the battery to be just fine as I could go on my uninterrupted binge sessions for hours.

When it comes to calls, the device performs well in all situations. Calls on the go sounded decent, people who I have been talking to have admitted that they could hear me with clarity even though I was in the market or amid heavy Noida traffic. Besides, with features like Multipoint Connection, one can connect the earbuds to two different Bluetooth devices at the same time. This allows one to switch between audio sources without having to disconnect and reconnect.

Should you buy the Sony WF-C510?

Based on my experience, the WF-C510 delivers impressive sound quality in a compact design. It has been designed for everyday convenience and can be a great everyday companion. With a robust battery life and IPX4 rating, make the TWS ideal for workdays and workouts. It is safe to say, this would be a worthy investment.
