WWDC 2015: New developer tools for Apple Watch to be unveiled

Apple Watch will get a new software development kit for apps

Apple’s annual Worldwide Developer’s Conference (WWDC) 2015 is all set to begin tomorrow. Apple will showcase iOS 9, the new OS X for Mac and new features around HomeKit and CarPlay and unveil a new digital music streaming service, according to the rumours.

In addition to this, Apple Watch will get a new software development kit for apps which will allow developers to create new apps for this latest gadget from Apple.

According to a New York Times report, the new tools will allow for app developers to gain “access to the watch’s heart-rate and motion sensors” of the Apple Watch.

The report points out that in case of the iPhones and iPads, the success of each device was driven by third-party apps and that in case of the Apple Watch too they “could become important selling points for the watch.” Currently a user requires an iPhone to use the Apple Watch but if Apple can ensure that more independent and third-party apps can be created for the Watch, it will change the game.

Where reviews for the Apple Watch go, critics have called it one of the best smartwatches in the market but the problem is the lack of apps or rather apps that are not terrible.

As we had noted earlier, third-party app on the Watch are not at all impressive and so far the Apple Watch feels like a first-generation watch. For the Apple Watch to be a success, Apple will need to get the software side right as well.
