Bumble on Thursday, July 18, announced another measure against AI-generated content on its platform. Now, users of the women-centric dating app will be able to report profiles that possibly contain AI-generated photos or videos.

“By introducing this new reporting option, we can better understand how bad actors and fake profiles are using AI disingenuously, so our community feels confident in making connections,” Risa Stein, VP of Product at Bumble, said.

To back up its decision, Bumble said that it had recently undertaken a survey which showed that over 71 per cent of Gen-Z and Millennial respondents believed that using AI-generated profile pictures and bios on dating apps should be limited.

Interestingly, a majority of the respondents also reportedly felt that using AI to generate photos of yourself doing something you’ve never done is the same as catfishing – which is when people use false information to create an online profile in order to trick, scam, or harass victims.

Aside from the new reporting option, Bumble has introduced several other features lately that look to keep users safe. Earlier this year, the dating app rolled out an AI tool called Deception Detector that helps identify fake profiles. Bumble also uses AI to automatically blur a potential nude image and notifies the user that they’ve been sent something inappropriate.

“We also recently made new AI-powered advancements to our “For You” feature to improve our consumer experience,” it said.
