X, formerly Twitter, has now enabled the ability to make audio and video calls for non-paying users on both Android and iOS platforms. Introduced back in 2023 for iPhone users with a Premium subscription, the same feature was made available for Android users. Now, the company is finally rolling out the latest capability to all users, as mentioned on the company’s official support page.
As soon as we are confident that it is robust, A/V calling will roll out widely to X users

X’s chief, Elon Musk, has confirmed that “As soon as we are confident that it is robust, A/V calling will roll out widely to X users.”
Back in January 2024, Elon Musk confirmed that the calling facility would be expanded to all users, regardless of subscription. And now, the company is rolling out the same for everyone in a phased manner. The calling facility on X is located within the messages section, and users can control who can call them via this feature, which acts as an additional layer of privacy.
By default, the calling feature is limited to followers, and one can set it to verified users or everyone. On top of that, there is also an option to hide the IP address by enabling “enhance call privacy.” One needs to have sent at least one message to initiate a call with a user.
Elon Musk has been promoting X as the “everything app” since its launch, and now, by enabling audio and video calling features for everyone, the company is offering more features and services to its users than ever before. Musk recently hinted that X will soon offer Xmail, a Gmail alternative, which is currently trending on the platform.
