The sales of wearable bands grew at 150 percent in the first quarter of 2015 as more than 7 million units were shipped, according to research company Canalys. Fitbit tops the sales figures and Xiaomi's Mi Band stood at second with a large number of its products being shipped in China, adds the report. Android Wear represented only 31 percent of the smart watch shipments. Canalys report also notes that 20 million Apple Watches will be shipped in 2015, which is a fairly big number to predict. "The Apple Watch has set the benchmark for other smart watches and will make up the majority of shipments this year," said VP and Principal Analyst Chris Jones. He added, "Despite the Apple Watch requiring an iPhone, Apple’s impending entrance in Q2 had a negative impact on vendors such as Samsung. Discounting has been used to clear inventory in the channel." Apple has not yet revealed any number for how many Apple Watch orders were placed, like it usually does with the iPhones. What the numbers do reveal is that while basic wearable bands are growing in shipment size, Android Wear has not really captured the market, like Android for mobile has done. It remains to be seen how Android Wear devices match up against Apple match in the future.
