Chinese smartphone brand Gionee will officially announce its first ‘Made in India’ smartphone on Ocotber 12 in presence of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu along with the company’s president William Lu.

In September, Gionee had announced its plans to start manufacturing in India in partnership with Foxconn and Dixon.The company will be investing $50 million over next three years for its Make in India plan. Foxconn will start manufacturing F series and P series phones at Andhra Pradesh facility while Dixon will manufacture feature phones and other smartphones at its Delh-NCR facility.

“India market is second home market to Gionee after China and the investment in India manufacturing is just another step in a line up of much more to come for the Indian market and customers,’ said William Lu, President Gionee.

In August,Chinese startup Xiaomi announced its first manufacturing facility in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. Xiaomi has exclusively partnered with Foxconn for this facility and going forward it aims to manufacture all of its smartphones to cater to the demand in the country.
