Google Chrome, the most popular internet browser with billions of users worldwide, is reportedly working on a new feature that uses artificial intelligence to detect potential scam websites
According to a recent post on X by the known tinkerer Leopova64, Google added a new flag called “Client Side Detection Brand and Intent for Scam Detection” to the Canary version of Chrome, which, as the name suggests, uses artificial intelligence to analyse and detect websites that may be trying to scam you.
Taking a quick look at the new experimental flag, it looks like the browser will take the help of an on-device LLM. Available on the Mac, Linux and Windows versions of Chrome, this feature is handy if you often visit unknown or untrusted devices since the process takes place on the device itself, it means your data will not sent to the cloud.
If you want to try the new feature, install Chrome Canary on your browser. Once done, type “chrome://flags” in the address bar and on the page that appears, type “Client Side Detection Brand and Intent for Scam Detection.” Now, manually enable the flag from the drop-down menu and you are good to go.
Earlier this month, Chrome was spotted working on a new feature called “Store reviews” which will allow users to quickly check if a website is trustworthy or not. However, it is still unclear if and when these features will be available on the stable version of Chrome, so you may have to wait a while.
