On Tuesday, Google announced that its upcoming annual developer conference, I/O 2025, will take place on May 20 and 21. Google is expected to showcase and demonstrate its latest hardware and software technologies.
While Google is yet to confirm the agenda for this year’s developer conference, the official microsite states: “At I/O, you’ll learn more about Google’s newest products, technologies, and innovations in AI, Android, and more.” This hints that Google is likely to unveil Android 16, which is currently in its beta phase.

Similar to Google I/O 2024, I/O 2025 is expected to be an in-person event. But it will also be live-streamed on platforms like YouTube, allowing global audiences to tune in.
Day one will feature a keynote, where Google will make all the major announcements. This will be followed by sessions and demos on day two. Interested participants can register for Google I/O 2025 at io.google/2025/register to receive the latest updates about the conference.
Given the timeframe, Google is also likely to showcase its latest hardware innovations at I/O 2025. This may include the Pixel 9a, an affordable and compact Android smartphone, which could be the first device to ship with Android 16 out of the box.
