Google Meet gets new Gemini-powered ‘Takes notes for me’ feature

Google Meet's new feature can come in handy if you are late to a meeting or just want a summary of everything that's happened.

Google Meet, the popular video-conferencing app, is getting a new AI-powered tool that lets users ask to take notes for them.

In a recent blog post, Google announced the rollout of a new “Take notes for me” feature to Google Workspace customers using the desktop version of the app. The tech giant said that the new feature will allow users to focus more on the discussion and presentation while notes are being taken automatically during the meeting.

Once the video meeting is over, the notes from the meeting will be attached to the calendar event, allowing easy access to those in the organisation. The file is attached as a Google Doc and is saved on the Google Drive of the meeting owner. If you join a meeting late, simply say “Summary so far” to receive an AI-generated summary of the meeting.

Right now, this new note-taking feature is available on the desktop version of the app and only supports English. Google says the new Gemini-powered feature will be available to all Workspace customers with Gemini Enterprise, Gemini Education Premium and AI Meetings & Messaging add-ons on or before September 10.

The company recently introduced Gemini-powered “Help me write” and “Polish” features on Gmail, making it a lot easier to draft emails. These features are also limited to Google Workspace customers but are available on the web, Android, and iOS devices.
