Google One “Dark Web report” will soon be free for all: Here’s what it does

Google's Dark Web reports feature lets you check if your personal information has been leaked as part of a data breach or available on the dark web.

Last year, Google introduced a new feature called ‘Dark Web reports’ for Google One subscribers. As the name suggests, the feature allows users to see if their personal information is available on the dark web or was found in data breaches or leaks.

To give you a quick recap, the dark web monitoring tool was previously limited to Google One customers and gave users a detailed analysis of  their leaked personal data like name, date of birth, phone number

However, a new banner in the Google One app is notifying users that the feature will no longer be available within the app from “late July.” But if you press the ‘Learn More’ that appears as part of the banner, Google’s support page suggests that the feature “will become available to all users with a consumer Google Account.”

It goes on to say that the functionality will soon be integrated with the existing “Results about you” section that shows up in search results and helps you find and request the removal of personal contact information from search results.

Google also lets users manually add information to your profile to find and check which details about you have made their way to the dark web. You can also edit and delete your monitoring profile or stop the reports.

Last month, Google also announced that it would be shutting down its VPN service, which was also a part of Google One subscription. However, this won’t impact users living in India as it wasn’t available in the country in the first place.
