iPhone 15 Pro Max could cost more than its predecessor, says report

Apple will likely unveil its highly anticipated iPhone 15 series and showcase the revamped iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Pro in September. Analyst Jeff Pu from Haitong International Tech Research suggests that the bigger iPhone 15 Pro Max will receive a notable price hike, owing to the increase in the cost of manufacturing.

The report also suggests that mass production of the iPhone 15 series will commence in August 2023, with a target to make over 84 million units.

In the US, Apple’s current flagship offering, the base model of the iPhone 14 Pro Max with 128 GB storage costs $1,099 before taxes, while the same variant is priced at Rs 1,39,900 in India. The price hike is said to be a reflection of the advanced features and capabilities offered on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The cost of manufacturing the iPhone 15 series is reported to have increased by 12 per cent compared to the iPhone 14 series. Additionally, unlike the iPhone 14 Pro, where the 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch models had identical features except for the battery and display, the larger iPhone 15 Pro Max is rumoured to include more exclusive features to justify the higher price tag.

Currently, the maximum optical zoom offered on an iPhone is 3x. However, the upcoming iPhone 15 Pro Max, equipped with a periscope zoom lens (a first for the iPhone), is expected to provide up to 6x optical zoom, along with other features such as three-stacked sensors for improved picture and video quality.

The analyst also suggests that future iPhone 16 models will incorporate a new technology called “metalens” within the proximity sensor further to reduce the size of the Face ID hardware and the iPhone 16 is also rumoured to feature a Wi-Fi 7-capable network modem.
