The iPhone 15 Pro Max comes in four eye-catching Titanium shades. The new devices are backed by the upgraded A17 Pro Bionic chip. Apple claims the new chipset is faster than its competitors. The new chip promises greater efficiency and smoother performance. The high-end iPhone 15 Pro Max comes at Rs 159,900(256 GB).
Although not a massive upgrade, the iPhone 15 Pro Max has some notable improvements over the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The most noticeable one is the new 5x zoom lens, which uses a clever tetraprism design to achieve a 120mm focal length. Besides, it has OIS and autofocus 3D sensor-shift for better stability and accuracy. This means users can now zoom in much closer than the 3x zoom on the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
A couple of years back, the iPhone hit a point where it was more powerful than what a regular user would ever want to do with a phone. With the Pro series, the phone tries to be able to rise to tasks professional workflows would move to the phone from a very powerful computer, especially with photos and videos. And it is this segment that will notice the added power of the A17 Pro chip along with maybe some top-end gamers.

I’m no gamer, but yes the gaming experience is superior because the graphics render so superbly and the physics is so natural. However, there is a hint of warmth on the chassis as you keep playing.
The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a slightly bigger battery than the 14 Pro Max. One can say the 4422 mAh battery lasts a tad longer than the earlier version. Usually, I charge my phone by 5:30 pm, which is about 11 hours since my last charge. This is not because the phone has drained out, but because it has reached its last 20% and I don’t want to be stuck on the way back home with a powerless phone. Yesterday, I did not do this and the 15 Pro Max has almost 40% battery left around 6 pm. And since I had some post-office work, the phone was up to it till I reached home at 9 pm and plugged it in with about 15% juice left.
This difference is not just the large battery at work, but also the fact that this is a battery with full health compared to the one-year-old 14 Pro Max which would have maybe 15% battery lost with time.
Someone asked me this question on LinkedIn and I’m very clear on my answer: No. The iPhone 14 Pro series is still a very relevant phone and for even most Pro users it has all the features they need. Yes, upgrade from 14 Pro to 15 Pro if you want the extra optical zoom and the capabilities of high-speed data transfer being given by USB-C. Yes, the camera is better overall with nearly seven camera modes. But at the end of the day, from a performance perspective, you will not be able to see a significant bump if moving from the 14 Pro. But for those using older phones, the shift will show substantial improvement.
Apple is going away from leather as it heads towards its aspirations 2030 sustainability goals. As a result there won’t be a leather case for the new iPhones. But Apple has launched a new material called finewoven to replace leather in its lineup. And this material is made from recycled material too.
Frankly, I love finewoven and its suede feel. Though it looks like leather from a distance, with a touch you know it’s fabric mostly. And just in case you were wondering, no this is not a cheaper material. The Apple case of the iPhone 15 Pro Max with MagSafe has a Rs 5990 price tag.
I could not help but notice that the iPhone 15 Pro Max comes with a hint of warmth on the titanium frame when you are actively using it. But you won’t feel this with the cover on. No, this doesn’t drain the battery faster but is there for sure.
Here are four images that show the progression from 1x to 2x and 5x optical zoom on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The last image shows the results when you push the dial to 25x, but this is digital zoom. The 2x and 5x zoom images are clear and without distortion or noise. It also maintains the natural colours. In digital zoom, there is of course noise.
No, Apple didn’t tell you this in the keynote. The iPhone 15 Pro camera can recognise plants.
Tried some night shots during my late evening jog. The colours are very natural and you can see even subtle variations in highlights and details. Night shots take a bit to save, so have to be still… not easy when you are on a jog. Still these shots are a good testament of the Pro Max’s capabilities. Let’s see how the zoom performs next.
I usually have my MacBook charger on my desktop in office. Then there is an iPhone charger which I need to use around 5 pm most days when the phone starts going into red. This means I have a power strip to accommodate both the chargers and more if needed.
Today, I could just plug the iPhone 15 Pro Max into the MacBook charger — though I really didn’t have to as it still had decent charge by end of day. While there’s been a lot of chatter around Apple being forced to make this move, I’m more than happy as I can now travel with just one charger in my bag for the iPhone, iPad and MacBook.
But, Apple has been really smart with this move. It is using the convenience and faster transfer capabilities of USB-C to its advantage. With the iPhone 15 Pro you will now be able to save videos and photos directly on to an external drive. It will even let professional users monitor what they are shooting in real time using larger monitors. A real Pro workflow with a smartphone.
Apple's latest iPhone 15 is here for all to see. We've got the latest iteration of the iPhone 15 in the yellow shade. The texture colour-infused glass back and the new shade of yellow is bound to grab attention. Stay with us to know more about the iPhone 15 series.

Naturally, one of the first things I wanted to test on the iPhone 15 Pro Max was the camera. The app now lets you use the camera with seven different zoom settings. There is the 0.5x ultra wide, the regular 1x, 2x and the new 5x. On 1x, you can now tap to switch to 24mm (1.2x), 28mm (1.5x) and 35mm. These give you more control over your photos, especially if you are looking at professional level results.
Then there is the new 5x optical zoom which is equivalent to a 120mm lens. Now, with a deep lens, the issue is how to manage the light and the physics of having such a funnel inside a smartphone. Apple has managed this by bouncing the light at an angle four times so that you are able to hold light inside the lens for longer without having a lens that juts out too much. By tomorrow we will have some camera test shots to show you what this means when it comes to results.
After Inset up the new iPhone, the old iPhone 14 Pro Max started showing this message in the settings menu. For regular users, this would be very helpful to erase files from the old phone and prepare it for a sale or to hand over to someone else.
The action button has made life tougher for iPhone users, in a good sort of way. I was wondering what I would like to use this button for. Frankly, I am not good with using customisable buttons, be it on a smartwatch or a DSLR camera. I keep procrastinating on what to use it for and in the end forget to use it at all.
With the iPhone 15 Pro action button, after a lot of deliberation, I moved to the camera option. This is where I otherwise have to unlock the phone for a click. I could have used the since option too, but that would have been a bit pointless as my phone is almost always in silent… so much so that I don’t even remember my ringtone. I could have used the shortcut option too, but then that is another feature which would have needed more of my attention and time for a set up.
There are a couple of things I really liked about using the action button for the camera. In the settings, one has the option to choose what exactly you would use this for — video, portrait selfies and so on. This is very thoughtful. Also, another click on the same button lets you click a photo to start video recording. This means the button is like a fully functional camera trigger now.
Over the past couple of years, both Android and iOS have made it easier for users to move to a new phone. And it has become even more easier to move between these two platforms too.
With the new iPhone 15 Pro Max, I transferred my account from the iPhone 14 Pro Max I have been using of late. With my legacy of having been an iPhone user for over a decade now with over 25000 photos and video, hundreds of apps and almost a TB of storage on iCloud, the shift took close to three hours. Now, this does not need WiFi and the two phones just need to be next to each other and ideally charging.
There are other ways to set up too. You can either set up as a new phone or transfer directly from iCloud backup. I find the transfer option easier as it means the phone is literally copy-pasted and you don’t need to set up apps and settings all over again. The only issue in this case is that both the phones start looking identical.
Confirming earlier reports, the iPhone 15 carries an ‘Assembled in India’ tag on the box. This is interested as it’s the first time a new iPhone is being assembled in India from Day 1.
Taking the iPhone 15 Pro Max out of the box, there were a couple of things that immediately struck me. For one, the phone (and for that matter the box) are much lighter than the iPhone 14 Pro Max which I am using at the moment. Holding both phones in either hand, the difference in weight was very clear. I checked the specs comparison again and it is just a 20 gram difference between the old and the new, but when it is something that hold in your hand for hours, this can make a huge difference.
The other aspect that is hard to miss shows up when you pull the phone out of the box. The box now has a braided fabric USB-C cable instead of the lightning cable we have been used to for the past many years. For new users and those upgrading after a few years, this won’t mean much. But later on I will tell you how Apple has used the new cable — in fact, a change that was forced on it by European rules — to its advantage.
The last major change is the new Action Button, which has been shaped exactly like the action button on the Apple Watch Ultra. The action button can be customised to nine different actions and I will get into that in detail after we set up the iPhone.
We finally got to lay our hands on the much-awaited iPhone 15 Pro Max. Behold Apple's most 'pro' smartphone ever - the iPhone 15 Pro Max in titanium white. (Images: Nandagopal Rajan/The Indian Express)
