Reliance is all set to venture into the laptop segment with the launch of the affordable JioBook on July 31. The laptop was initially unveiled back in October 2022 as an affordable always-connected notebook with support for 4G LTE networking capability with a built-in SIM card slot.
JioBook is powered by JioOS, a forked version of Android and can run most Android apps and games. Primarily targeted towards students, the JioBook offers high-speed connectivity with both 4G and Wi-Fi network support.
The laptop comes with an 11.6-inch HD display (720p) and is based on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 octa-core processor with 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of eMMC-based flash storage with a dedicated microSD card slot for additional storage expansion of up to 128 GB.
The laptop was on sale via Jio Store for a while, in select cities, priced at around Rs 16,000. When the laptop goes on sale via Amazon, it should become more accessible.
Jio revolutionised internet usage in India with its affordable plans and it is also one of the first telecom companies to enable a 5G network in the country. Similarly, the brand also had humongous success with the launch of the affordable 4G-capable feature handset JioPhone and the affordable smartphone JioPhone Next.
It looks like the company will use the same formula for the JioBook, where, the company is likely to subsidise the hardware and then make a profit with the monthly recharge plans.
