Reliance announces JioTV OS with AI-powered Hello Jio voice assistant

At its 47th annual general meeting, Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) announced a new software solution called JioTV OS, which will power Jio set-top boxes, and called it a 100 per cent homegrown operating system, made for big TV screens that offers a faster, smoother, and most personalised user experience.

It is capable of supporting video streaming with up to 4K resolution with support for technologies like Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos to ensure the best picture and sound quality like a cinema theatre but at the comfort of your living room.

The OS supports all the major OTT platforms, live television streaming, and TV shows in one single service. Hello Jio, a voice assistant that was introduced a few years ago, is now a part of JioTV OS, allowing users to discover content and control the setup box using voice, which is now powered by generative AI to enhance natural language understanding and to make it feel more human-like.

JioTV OS also comes with its own Jio AppStore, designed specifically for JioHome, which includes shopping apps with an augmented reality shopping experience, fitness, and education-related apps. It can also control smart home accessories such as AC, smart lights, and security cameras, which can also be controlled by the updated JioHome app.

Besides, Reliance also mentioned a few updates to JioTV+, which offers access to over 800 TV channels with up to HD along with support for OTT platforms like Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar. It combines content from OTT apps and live TV channels with a single login. The JioTV+ app was recently launched for all the major smart TV platforms. JioTV+ users will soon be able to pause live TV and resume whenever required.

Reliance also introduced JioPhoneCall AI, which can record any call and automatically transcribe, summarise, and translate any call on JioCloud. One needs to add JioPhoneCall AI into the call (1800-73267) to start recording, and it will also announce that the call is being recorded. This feature will work on both Android and iOS devices without any app. JioCloud can also be used to upload photos, documents, and videos.
