Chinese phone maker Oppo recently demoed a prototype of Air Glass 3, its latest generation of 'assisted reality' glasses. Similar to Meta's Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses, the company's latest version of smart glasses provides real-time information using a full-colour display embedded in the lens. Compared to the Air Glass 2, which weighed a mere 38 grams, the new version of the company's Augmented Reality enabled glasses is a bit on the the heavier side (50 grams). Oppo says the Air Glass 3 can be paired with a smartphone and makes use of its in-house developed AndesGPT AI model. Currently limited to China, the company claims its AI-powered voice assistant can perform "performing information searches and conducting conversations to assist users in tasks like planning travel." Similar to the Air Glass 2, Oppo's latest wearable looks like a normal pair of glass and comes with a new resin waveguide which has a refractive index of 1.7 and helps reduce the rainbow effect when light passes through glass. The Air Glass 3 has a peak brightness of 1,000 nits and also features automatic brightness adjustment. It packs four microphones that offer improved noise isolation and can be connected with Oppo phones running on Color OS 13 or later. The Air Glass 3 also lets users quickly trigger the AI voice assistant by tapping on the temple of the glasses. Apart from the fancy AI stuff, the smart glass can also play music, make voice calls, display information and more. Oppo said it plans to make features like navigation, timer, and translation and add support for fitness information with a future update. However, the Air Glass 3 may remain a prototype similar to its predecessors.
