ChatGPT comes to Nothing’s new Ear, Ear (a) wireless buds

You'll be able to talk to ChatGPT with a simple pinch on the earbuds.

Nothing is back with a duo of fresh earbuds – and they’ve received a generative AI upgrade. Where the Nothing Ear is the successor to last year’s Ear (2), the Ear (a) is positioned as a more affordable model. Let’s take a look.

Nothing Ear

The Nothing Ear keeps Nothing’s signature see-through design while leveling up the sound quality. Under the hood, you’ll find a 11mm driver system, engineered with premium materials like a ceramic diaphragm for richer audio and crisper highs. The improved dual-chamber design with additional vents promises clearer sound too.

For audiophiles, the Ear supports high-res codecs like LHDC 5.0 and LDAC over Bluetooth, delivering 24-bit/192kHz lossless streaming. There’s also a neat personal audio profile feature that tunes the equaliser based on your hearing.

The Ear brings Nothing’s best noise cancellation tech to the table as well. The new Smart ANC algorithm checks for noise leakage and bumps up the cancellation accordingly. Nothing claims they offer almost twice the silencing power of the Ear (2) at 45dB.

Other highlights include longer battery life (up to 40.5 hours), fast wireless charging, improved voice call quality, and handy pinch controls.

Nothing Ear (a)

While the Ear sits in premium territory, the budget-friendly Ear (a) is a more affordable option without many compromises. And it comes in a playful yellow colour too. This one features a new driver promising deep bass performance. It’s hi-res audio certified too, streaming at up to 24-bit/96kHz over LDAC.

The design has been updated here with a smaller-looking case unlike the regular Ear model which seems to have largely recycled the look of the Ear (2).

Despite the cheaper price tag, this model seemingly gets the same Smart ANC tech that the pricier model packs with adaptive transparency modes. Battery life is slightly higher at 42.5 hours.

ChatGPT integration

But the real headline feature here is the ChatGPT integration, keeping in line with Nothing’s focus on simplifying AI experiences. With the latest Nothing OS and a quick pinch gesture, you’ll be able to chat with ChatGPT directly through the earbuds.

The Ear will retail for Rs 11,999 while the Ear (a) is priced at a more affordable Rs 7,999. Both hit Indian stores by late April, initially exclusively through Flipkart with launch discounts.
