Nothing unveiled OS 4.0 on September 16, a platform update based on Android 16 that includes several enhancements aimed at improving the user experience. The main features of the Nothing OS 4.0 upgrade include the new TrueLens Engine for better Camera and Gallery performance, a redesigned system user interface, and an AI usage dashboard. 

The company announced its planned release of Nothing OS 4.0 in a Nothing Community post. The article offers a preview of the OS based on Android 16. Nothing states that the interface will feature more standardised components, such as updated lock screen clocks and a more streamlined Quick Settings panel.

For a better experience on Nothing devices, the company claims that the update also introduces a new Extra Dark Mode, improved controls, inventive settings, and a more user-friendly UI. The open beta testing for Nothing OS 4.0 will commence shortly.

Users will also gain access to a new Extra Dark Mode with Nothing OS 4.0, designed to conserve battery life and reduce eye strain. The update’s Pop-up View feature allows users to run two floating applications simultaneously, enhancing multitasking. This feature enables quick transitions between tasks with actions like pulling down to go full-screen or swiping up to minimise.

Nothing OS 4.0 improves the Camera and Gallery through the new TrueLens Engine, bringing a redesigned UI, better controls, and creative presets.

The new Settings menu in Nothing OS 4.0 offers weekly and daily usage statistics. After updating, users can monitor which LLMs are most active on their devices.

Furthermore, the update includes features like Always On Display and improvements to the lock screen. Nothing OS 4.0 also optimises brightness sliders, enhances Bluetooth and Wi-Fi performance, and offers quicker access to Bluetooth recording.
