The closer we get to the launch of the OnePlus Open the more information makes the headlines, and this time, the latest alleged leak claims the design language of the device. Compared to an earlier leak, the new renders visualise the smartphone differently, and the final design seems to be inspired by the Oppo Find N2 Fold.
The images suggest that the OnePlus Open will have a wider aspect ratio when compared to the Galaxy Z Fold5, which will influence the size of the cover and the primary display. Despite mimicking the Oppo Find N2 Fold, OnePlus seems to have made quite a few changes to make it a unique offering. These changes include a flat frame with rounded corners around the hinge area.
While the company appears to have stuck with the circular camera island featuring the Hasselblad-stylised H logo, similar to the OnePlus 11, the uniquely positioned LED flash gives this phone character. Additionally, the phone features the largest camera array ever seen on a OnePlus device.
Similar to the OnePlus 11, the Open retains the iconic alert slider, and the power button also seems to double as a fingerprint sensor, as is the case with most foldable devices. Lastly, at least one of the variants will have a vegan leather-like back panel adorned with the OnePlus logo.
The same report suggests that the OnePlus Open will feature a 7.8-inch primary screen and a 6.3-inch secondary cover display, both with up to a 120Hz refresh rate. The smartphone is said to be based on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, boasting 16 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage.
The triple camera array at the back is said to include a 48 MP wide-angle lens and an ultra-wide-angle lens, along with a 64 MP periscope-style zoom lens – a first for OnePlus. The device is said to be powered by a 4,700 mAh battery with support for 67W wired charging. The phone is likely to ship with Android 13-based OxygenOS 13, optimized for the foldable form factor.
According to a report by Max Jambor, OnePlus was initially set to introduce its maiden foldable on August 29 at a launch event in New York. However, the launch has been postponed as the company switches its display supplier from BOE to Samsung Display.
Unlike clamshell smartphones, foldables are more fragile due to their moving parts. It appears that OnePlus is opting for tried and tested technology for its upcoming Open by sourcing screens from Samsung Display which is expected to launch in the next few weeks.
