Truecaller will soon let you create an AI version of your voice to answer calls

Truecaller's AI powered Personal Voice feature will allow users to create a digital voice of themselves, which can then be used to answer calls.

Truecaller, one of India’s most popular caller ID services, is all set to introduce a new AI-powered feature that will mimic your voice to answer calls on your behalf.

The new AI Assistant is powered by Microsoft’s ‘Personal Voice’, a technology the tech giant unveiled in November last year as part of the Azure AI speech.

The functionality will be available to Truecaller Premium subscribers and requires users to record a few seconds of their voice so the AI can replicate it when someone calls. The company’s AI Assistant also lets users screen incoming calls and even let them know why the call is being made.

While Truecaller already has a set of voices which can be used to answer calls, this is the first time the company is introducing an AI-powered voice cloning feature. However, enabling ‘Personal Voice’ will replace the existing Truecaller Assistant feature, enabling users to edit the introductory greeting template to let others know that the user is using a digital version of their voice. Users can also customise the follow-up answers to their liking.

Microsoft says Azure AI Speech, currently available for a handful of users, automatically adds a watermark to the digital voice, making it easy for tools to detect the synthetic audio. Truecaller says the ‘Personal Voice’ feature will be rolling out in the next few weeks to public beta users living in India, US, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Chile and South Africa.

In the last few months, Truecaller has introduced several new feature AI-powered features to detect and block spam calls, generate transcription and summary for recordings and rolled out a web version of the app for Android users.
