Vivaldi, the free browser founded by Opera co-founder Jon Stephenson von Tetzchner, is now available on iOS. The privacy and customisability-focused browser comes to Apple devices more than six years after the desktop version was launched. The company had already launched a stable version of the browser for Android devices in 2020.
Vivaldi on iOS has a distinctive look and feel compared to other browsers and comes with some of its signature built-in tools like Speed Dials, Panels, Notes, a Reading List, and a Tracker and Ad Blocker. If you already use Vivaldi on other devices, you will be able to sync your browsing data with your iOS device.

“Big tech has proven that they can’t take responsibility for our data. They have misused the data, and they are trying to make what they are doing acceptable, even though it isn’t. Our business model is built around our browser, and this is another feature we are adding for our users,” said von Tetzchner to indianexpress.com in December 2022, explaining the philosophy behind the company. This was shortly after the company created its own Mastodon instance and integrated it into the browser.
Using Vivaldi browser on iOS
Just like with the desktop and Android versions of the browser, when you launch Vivaldi on iOS, you start on the “Speed Dials” screen where you can organise your favourite sites in the way that you like.
“Panels” can be found at the bottom left corner of the browser interface, providing a way to quickly access tools like Bookmarks, History, Notes, Reading List, and Downloads. To the right of Panels, the Tab Switcher lets you toggle between regular, private and synced tabs. It even lets users retrieve recently closed tabs from the “trash.”

At the middle of the bottom bar, you will find the Search button surrounded by the backwards and forwards button. The address bar can be used to search using an engine of your choice or even find a bookmark instantly. The desktop-like tabs interface is designed to help users switch between tabs instantly.
If you use your phone to browse the internet for work, you will find the Notes feature particularly useful. You can highlight text from any website and use the “Copy to notes” option to save it in the Notes section of Vivaldi. You can also save web pages to read later using the browser’s Reading List option.
