WeChat, the social networking app, has announced that it now has 549 million monthly active users globally as compared to 500 million users in Q4 2014. The company said people between 16-34 years constitute about 80% of WeChat users in India. "India is a key market for WeChat and the mobile social communication app aims to take social interaction to a deeper level – not just for the users, but also a platform for the brands to interact with theirs consumers through the innovative features," said Nilay Arora, VP Marketing and Business Development, WeChat India. According to GWI's study, in India alone, there has been a 113% rise in the number of people using mobile messaging tools since 2013. As many as 79% of these people own a smartphone. Also, the active user growth in India has grown by 2364% from Q1 2013 to Q3 2014.
