WhatsApp could soon gain new AI features, powered by Meta AI. The company is currently testing an AI-powered chatbot and a photo editor on the latest beta versions of WhatsApp. In addition, Meta is also testing a new generative AI-powered photo editor.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, Meta has added a new AI shortcut to the latest version (2.23.25.15) of WhatsApp beta for Android. This Meta AI shortcut sits within the top bar and can be used to ask questions and get information without leaving the app. While the feature is inactive at this moment, the company is currently tweaking the UI to smartly incorporate it without affecting other functionalities.

Similarly, Meta is also testing an AI-powered photo editor on another version of WhatsApp beta for Android (2.24.7.13). This allows users to expand, restyle, and even change the background of their pictures. A few months ago, WhatsApp also tested the ability to generate stickers and photos within the app. With the upcoming feature, WhatsApp will allow users to access the AI chatbot directly within the chat window, and it can also assist users with specific replies to their queries.

With the latest update, WhatsApp now allows users to set the default media quality upload, where users can select the SD or the HD option. The SD quality upload will be smaller in size, while the HD quality photo will be larger in size and will also retain a lot of details.

Right now, most of these new AI features are still under development, and WhatsApp is likely to introduce them one by one in the coming days. They are expected to be made available across all platforms.
