YouTube, the go-to video streaming platform for billions worldwide often tests with new features, which may or may not be available to everyone. As part of its newest experimental features, the platform is now rolling out the ability to listen to audio in high quality, play videos at higher than before speed, a picture-in-picture mode for Shorts and more
Currently limited to Premium subscribers, the company says users can now listen to music videos at 256kbps bitrate. For those who don’t know, YouTube Music’s ‘high’ audio quality also offers the same bitrate. Moreover, the app is also getting a faster video playback option that allows you to watch videos at 4x speed. Until now, the highest available playback speed was capped at 2x.

Last year, the YouTube app unveiled a new feature called “Jump Ahead”, which, as the name suggests, lets you skip to the best part of the video, with the platform using machine learning in combination with user feedback to determine the timestamps. Now, the Jump Ahead feature is available on the web.
YouTube is also adding a picture-in-picture mode for Shorts on the iOS version of the app. Talking of short-form content, YouTube users can now turn on smart downloads for Shorts. Both features are already available on the Android version of the app.
While the Jump Ahead feature on the web is available to try until February 5, YouTube Shorts picture-in-picture and Shorts Smart Downloads will be available til February 19. For those not in the know, YouTube experiments are basically tests to gauge how users react to new or improved features.
