Seagate’s Backup Plus Ultra Slim external HDD makes for an extremely thin and lightweight experience for the user. Weighing just 136 gms, the hard drive weighs less than most smartphones out there - making for an effortless device to be carried around. The thin frame will also make for less bulkiness in a backpack. Ultra Slim drives will come in two standard colours - Gold or Platinum and will be available with 1TB or 2TB storage. The top surface has small circular indentations - of which i am not a big fan. The good thing, however, is that the device appears to be resistant to small scratches and isn't smudge friendly. Holding the Ultra Slim drive in your hand, you can appreciate the sturdiness - with no creaking or cracking when you press firmly on the device. The drive was quick to connect to my Macbook Air, and showed 997 GB of available space. I was able to transfer the entire sixth season of Game of Thrones (4.5GB) onto the hard drive in less than 1 minute over a standard USB 3.0 port. That, is blazing fast! Seagate's Ultra Slim drives can connect to Mac OS X 10.7 or higher or Windows 7 or higher operating systems. The drives can also be connected to Android devices (3.0 or higher) The Ultra Slim drives come with a three-year warranty, and gives you free 200 GB of cloud storage (OneDrive) for two years. Seagate's Ultra Slim 1TB drive is available for Rs 5,674 on Amazon. The 2TB version is priced at Rs 8,249. On the other hand Seagate's Backup Plus Slim 1TB drive will only set you back by Rs 4,429 (2TB Slim is priced at Rs 7,139) and is a bestseller in its range. Verdict Is the steeper price of Seagate's Ultra Slim drive compared to the Slim version justified? I do not think so. I personally own a Seagate Backup Plus Slim, and have never found myself wishing for a thinner or a lighter device. In any case, the Seagate Ultra Slim is a solid device for anyone who is in the market for an external hard disk and likes its funky look.
