I never imagined I would struggle to find sleep, always distracted by any sound I hear once I am in bed. The past few months, I have been sleeping well thanks to the Sennheiser SoundProtex hearing protection earplugs that have now become an integral part of my ‘night life’. Now, Sennheiser has come up with the SoundProtex Plus, offering filter options based on what your use case is.

The Sennheiser SoundProtex Plus has the same design as the earlier model, with three silicone ear tips that fit your ear type. They come with four sets of filters — low, mid, high and full — based on the level of sound blocking you want to experience. The ear tips have silicone fins that are useful when you pull them out of your ears after use.

While we talk a lot about pollution, there is no acceptance of the fact that our cities also suffer from a high degree of sound pollution. The filters work well and can keep out most of the brown noise plaguing Indian cities. For this the low filter is good enough, especially if you are not in the middle of Mumbai or Delhi.

In my suburban setting, this filter was good enough for me to go for a walk and be able to hear myself think. But when I was in the bustling industrial part of Navi Mumbai, I was better off with the Mid filter. The high filter works better when you are in a loud surrounding like a nightclub or a gym in Delhi. This filter works well to make the sound palatable.
For me the use case was the full filter, which is like the one I am already using. The difference between the earlier set and the new one is that the earlier kit had only full and mid filters. The full filter does not seem to have changed and still plugs most of the noise that could prevent you from getting a good night’s sleep.

I have been using this for a few nights and it does a good job, even if you are in a noisy highway hotel room in Navi Mumbai. The one aspect you need to be aware of while using the full filter is that it might prevent you from hearing someone ringing the calling bell of your home early in the morning. Also, I have felt that at times the suction in the ears increases over night and you feel a bit of pressure while waking up in the morning. This could be when you develop a cold over night, which is a higher probability as you move towards the winter.
At Rs 2,990, this is a good aid for those who struggle with sleep as well as loud noises. This decibel-killer is good value for money.
