(File photo)Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has revolutionised the Indian market, making digital payments so convenient that many people no longer feel the need to carry cash. But despite its widespread adoption, UPI transactions sometimes fail due to poor network connectivity or temporary bank server outages. If you are unable to make UPI payments without an active internet connection, here’s how you can make payments using the USSD service.
Before you can make offline UPI payments, you will have to register your mobile number with your bank. To do so, make sure your number is linked to your bank account and set up a UPI PIN using your bank’s app or website.
1. The number to make offline UPI payments is *99#. Typing this on your phone dialer will open a menu that lets you access UPI services without an active internet connection.
2. Now, select the bank account you want to and choose the transaction type.
3. To send money, you will have to enter the receiver’s mobile number, UPI ID, or bank account details alongwith the IFSC code.
4. Once done, enter the amount you want to send and type in the UPI PIN.
Please note that,the upper limit for transactions using this is capped at Rs 5,000, and every transaction is chargeable at Rs 0.50 per transaction. The feature is available around the clock, can be used even on holidays and works on all telecom networks and mobile handsets.
